What They're Saying About Katie

"Katie is so knowledgeable, encouraging and patient - and makes me want to be a better player."

"Katie is a wonderful teacher. I am in my 60s and have just begun piano lessons. I'm an absolute beginner and always wanted to learn to play but put it off for three kids, my career and just a busy life. I was afraid that I was too old to start but decided to check this off my bucket list and do something for me. I have had four lessons so far and I am amazed at my progress. I love it so much and it has given me a daily challenge and joy. Katie is so knowledgeable, encouraging and patient - and makes me want to be a better player. I look forward to every week with her and she has given me a new-found confidence. If you have ever desired to learn to play but thought it was too late in life to start, it is not! LB Music School is the best!"     --Ronda B.

If it weren't for Katie, I wouldn't be the singer I am today.”

"Katie is an inspirational voice teacher. She had the experience and skill to help me improve as a singer despite my having never sung before.  Her constructive criticism is honest, yet always come across as genuine and kind. If it weren't for Katie, I wouldn't be the singer I am today.”     --Riley M.

"Some people can learn everything about singing, but it takes someone special to be able to teach it."

"On top of being an amazingly talented singer, Katie O’Brien is an excellent teacher. Whether it’s an in person lesson, a virtual lesson, or one of her carefully thought out YouTube videos, I am always amazed by her knowledge.  Some people can learn everything about singing, but it takes someone special to be able to teach it.  I’ve been taking voice lessons with Katie for six years now, and I honestly believe I hit the jackpot with her because she has taught me so much. Not only has she introduced me to all kinds of music, but more importantly, she has taught me the proper vocal technique so that I don’t hurt my voice. Katie is a kind, understanding, and empathetic  person who gives her students a safe space to learn and make mistakes.  Over time, she has helped me strengthen my voice and find the confidence to perform in public.  Without question, Katie O’Brien has made me a better singer and anyone who wants to learn how to sing or improve their technique should learn from her."     --Rachel M.

"They may go into the lesson feeling some anxiety about singing but they come out smiling and feeling proud about what they accomplished in their lesson. It's almost magical!"

"As Administrator at LB Music School where Katie teaches voice and piano, I have booked many intro lessons for potential students interested in singing lessons. Whether the goal is to improve their vocal range, gain more confidence singing in front of others or prepare for auditions in musical theater, they are excited to enroll in singing lessons with Katie as soon as their intro lesson is over! They may go into the lesson feeling some anxiety about singing but they come out smiling and feeling proud about what they accomplished in their lesson. It's almost magical!"      --Carolyn Z.

"If you want to develop your voice, Katie is the best choice!"

"Katie O’Brien is a fantastic singer and singing teacher.  She has been singing all her life and has a professional singing career.  She is great at building your confidence and providing constructive criticism. She has a fun and unique way of teaching. I definitely don’t want to take singing lessons from anyone else. If you want to develop your voice, Katie is the best choice!"     --Mary G.

"Katie O'Brien has been my voice teacher for a few years now, and I can't say enough about how satisfying the experience

has been for me."

"Katie O'Brien has been my voice teacher for a few years now, and I can't say enough about how satisfying the experience has been for me. She puts 110%

into her students and their experience. She is incredibly intuitive about the

vocal mechanism and about what works for each student. She truly listens to your concerns and is flexible and creative, but also decisive. She knows her stuff! You get the sense she truly cares about the needs of her students, and you should see her beam with pride at the student recitals! Her personality is very warm and friendly and she might break out a few Anchorman quotes if she thinks you might get the reference."     --Lisa G.

"I really can't recommend her enough. A great teacher and great person!"

"Katie has been my teacher for several years now and during that time I have improved greatly. Not only that, but I’ve had so much fun. Katie is so patient and funny. You can really tell how much she cares about her students - which is a lot. She’s nothing but accommodating to those with disabilities and even before quarantine, she scrubbed doorknobs for her students with germaphobia. I really can’t recommend her enough, a great teacher and great person!"   --Brianna P.

"I think she has a rare mix of personality, talent, schooling, and professional-level experience that can not only help you sing better by yourself, but encourage you to explore your potential, and guide you to achieve some unexpected new goals."

"I started voice lessons with another teacher, who taught me all the basic drills and theories, and got me to my first one-song recital, but I had hit a plateau.  So my teacher asked Katie to take over.  She started with the same foundation, but we quickly moved towards what it would take to get me ready for bigger performances.  Katie has a great ear not only for the notes you sing, but for songs as a whole.  She helps you think about the lyrics so the right inflections come out naturally.  She considers your posture and how that affects a song.  And with her own very polished band, she has a ton of practical and current advice for all my novice questions about performing in different situations, what gear you might need, and the business side of professional gigs if you're curious about that, etc.  She also thinks in terms of whole gigs, so she gets you thinking about the right mix of songs to learn for an audience, and for getting the most out of your voice while preserving it for another day too.  Her personality is bubbly and supportive, so I've steadily grown more comfortable taking risks, and that has helped me find the confidence to 'let it go' and sing parts that would normally induce note-strangling apprehension.  Then of course, that confidence builds up to take on greater challenges with less fear.  Slowly but surely, she's helped me build a small catalog of songs that I can confidently perform now, and actually in front of other people: family, friends, and strangers.  Deep inside, I never quite thought I'd really get that far.  I certainly know I wouldn't have without a mentor like Katie.  I think she has a rare mix of personality, talent, schooling, and professional-level experience that can not only help you sing better by yourself, but encourage you to explore your potential, and guide you to achieve some unexpected new goals."   --Chris J.
